03:31 "Didn't Mean to Interrupt"
Also! It's a new month, and that means a new shirt that you can wear if you should so choose! Y'all remember my comic about James K. Polk? "I'll Manifest YOUR Destiny!"? Well, get ready, 'cause now you can experience James K. Polk...the t-shirt!
Yee-haw!
Lately, I haven't been very productive, but the new month has also brought a sudden rush of energy for me, so I have some new art!

Also...Wowzers!! Fanart for The Makeshift Man?! This is entirely unprecedented!! And it looks so freakin' sweet! Mirleanda has captured the titular gentleman's slithery demeanor perfectly! It's so exciting!

And one final bit of hey-that's-potentially-interesting-in-the-world-of-JoJo:
Mr. Panda Patrick T. decided recently to...interview me! So if you wanna read my fumbled answers to his spontaneous questions, you can read it here. We mostly talk about Dis.
In closing, I'd like to kindly remind you all to not get behind the wheel of a car or try to operate any other vehicle or heavy machinery if you've been consuming psychology-altering substances! Have a lovely day!

And some arts!

(And I've got an answer key for that last one.)
Uhhhhh...people have been asking me my thoughts on the Last Airbender trailer. So if you wanna read my rambles, they're over here.
That's all I've got. Does it seem that I've been less active than usual? If so, know that it's because I've been doing some writing.

HOORAY! ![]()
Listening To: Dio - "Lock Up the Wolves"; Bump of Chicken - "Hull G On"
Been Reading: Aldus Huxley - Brave New World
Been Watching: Up; Dune
Hooray! Exciting-type newsmuch! First, there is a new page of The Makeshift Man! I enjoyed painting it. I hope that you enjoy reading it!
Also! So exciting! Dis has been selected as a featured comic over at DrunkDuck, where it's mirror-hosted! Some very kind things were said and I feel so honored! Thank you to everyone who supports my work! You mean the world to me!

Speaking of my work, I have some new sketches and things like that...

Also incredibly exciting! A gift! A gift from mon petit ami!

...In other newwwwwws...I saw Up and you should, too, because it is a fantastic work of art! I laughed, I cried, I oohed and ahhed, I quoted the dialogue in casual conversation, and I declared that there aren't enough stories like this one that get told! Go see it!
Also, I'm totally giving up listening to the radio for a while, because there's this really squicky, disturbing ad that they keep playing. I think it's for Doritos? It's ineffective because I can't actually remember what it was for, but it makes me hate whatever company it advertises. AUGH.
Um...In conclusion, hugs and giant robots are both awesome, but not necessarily at the same time. Have a beautiful day!

Just a quick update, letting you know that there's a new page of Dis ready for reading! Huzzah! Also, I've just finished this chapter (44 pages) so if there's a little downtime when we get to that point, please do not be alarmed, because it's only because I'll be finishing up the script for chapter 4, and chapter 4 is gonna be a doozy. (Look forward to it?!)
I don't mind letting you know that I'm pretty proud of this page. It felt really good.
Dis 03:29 "Peek-A-Boo"

...In other news, my boyfriend is out of town, and I console myself in his absence by eating many mashed potatoes. Also, the DVD packaging of YuYu Hakusho is gorgeous; those guys at Funimation do really nice work. <3

The A-Kon Aftermath!
Submitted by JoJo on Wed, 2009-06-03 00:02.Status: None Too Shabby
Listening To: The Pointer Sisters - "Jump (For My Love)"
Been Reading: Michael "Mookie" Terracciano - Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire; Jennie Breedan - The Devil's Panties
Hey, everyone! I'm back from A-Kon! What an exciting time I have had!
We'll begin at the beginning: I was on a plane! And then I had some tamales, and was so happy to get to eat Mexican food for the first time in nine months!

The con went great. I was so happy to get to see Juno Blair B, James Riot, and Mookie again, and I made a new friend in Jennie Breedan. :D
I also got to meet Glass-Bottle and Dub-T in person, and that was really swell. (And I learned that they both have really great hair!) Hooray!
Here is a picture of Mookie's rad shoes. I should have also gotten a picture of Jennie's rad trademark boots, but I'm bad about taking pictures.

So, it turned out that I was scheduled to do not one, but three different panels! Oh, my! But they all went great!
First, Mookie and I did a 'Humor-Based Webcomics' panel, and that was slammin'. Apparently, we were supposed to be joined by Matt Herms, but he was subbed for by a bottle of water, which Mookie proceeded to drink throughout the panel. Tee-hee-hee!
Unfortunately, I forgot to get photos, 'cause I am a doofus.
Next up, Riot, Juno and I did a panel on 'Story-Driven Webcomics', and that was also pretty keen once we got going. (It began with the typical Bohemian Trash belligerence, after all.)

Speaking of, I'd gone packed with a gift for each of my fellow cogs in the BT trio-of-much-shenaningannery:

And then, on the subject of painting, my last panel was a solo one, 'Watercolor in Comics and Cartooning'. It was crazy! I had a good group of people who were really interested in the subject and asked good questions like what to do about paper buckling, and how I do that splattery effect that's on, like, all my paintings, and about pigments and paper weights, and paint brands and whether I ever try to paint with digital "watercolor" in programs like Painter. (Answer: no. I use a computer for things that I think computers are good at, and I use real paint for things that real paint is good at. I find that what makes watercolor special is the happy surprises, "accidents" and unpredictable things that happens when the minerals spread out in the water. It's not something you can (or should) control, so you can't replicate the effect in the exacting and precise medium of the computer.) So, um...I was demonstrating some techniques on a picture of Hermes, which I finished later back at my table.

Back at my table, I had the happy opportunity to do some more arting. Hooray! Popped out a couple more paintings:

The latter one was inspired by a happy impromptu One Piece themed sketch trade I did with Noodle-Doodle when I had the pleasure of making her acquaintance. I drew Monkey D. Luffy for her, and I forgot to get a photo of it (Ah, well.) and she did this great picture of Sanji for me!

And Riot (who has always been so supportive of my Deadpool addiction) drew this fabulous thing for me:

And I had the joy of doing a few commissions over the weekend. Here are the ones that I remembered to snap photos of:

And Mookie asked me to do some guest art for him, and that was really fun. You can check it out here. =)
*Sigh*...Such a good con. I think the best one I've done. It was just so full of positive energy. And I got to enjoy the best sushi I've had in my life, and I got to see a spooky abandoned hotel, and I got to be in the exact spot where John F. Kennedy was assassinated! (You know the little history geek in me was jumping up and down. ^__~)
Well...I don't exactly have more in the way of photos (except for some sweet new stock for my archives, for when I get itchin' to do that digital collage thing that I enjoy so much.) There were lots of great cosplayers and such, but there are a lot of people with great photos of them, too, so I'll leave you with that.
This is your JoJo, signing off from her report.

Makeshift Man Page o3, and Off to A-Kon!

Listening To: Demon Hunter - "Carry Me Down"
Been Reading: Robert Louis Stevenson - Treasure Island
Been Watching: Home Movies
Whoo-hoo! In just under twelve hours, I'll be hoppin' a plane down to Texas to spend the weekend in Dallas for A-Kon! Yaaaaay! I've never been to Dallas before, so this'll be super keen!
I'll be hangin' with my Bohemian Trash crew in Artists' Alley, with all of our books (that you should totally be reading) and some other gear. And I'm gonna have Hermes postcards, Hades bookmarks, and gobs of original paintings, drawings, and prints!
Also! This is exciting! While there, I'll be giving a workshop, an introduction to using watercolor! I think it's on Saturday, so please come see me!
Before I leave, here's an update of what I've got that's new. First up, a new page of The Makeshift Man! Huzzah (and speaking of watercolor)! "Black Dog" page o3:

And some other new arts:

Plus! The lovely and talented Greenbear suprised me with a gift! It's Eros! And lookin' so damn fine! Lookin' every bit the stud muffin that he is. And those colors! Ungh! <3

Well, I must get back to trying to get everything to fit in my suitcase. Everybody have a fantastic weekend, and I hope to see a lot of you in Texas! Yee-haw!

Listening To: Pogo - "UnBirthday"
Been Reading: Robert Louis Stevenson - Treasure Island
Been Watching: Home Movies; YuYu Hakusho
So, at A-Kon this upcoming weekend, I'm gonna have a whole lot of original art* (and also prints** and other things***) for sale. I've got stacks of pieces from trades n' whatnot sitting around, and I figured I'd put them up for sale.
So! If I've done a piece for you for a trade or a gift or something, and you're either uncomfortable with me selling a picture of your character to a stranger, or if you'd like me to hang onto it because you'd like to own it yourself, please let me know, and I'll leave it at home. And I'm okay with hanging onto X piece indefinitely until you get the fundage, if you want the original but can't pay for it right now, so, ya know, don't let that keep you from speaking up.
(* 9x12 Paintings at $100 Friday, $75 Saturday, and $50 Sunday. The exception is Razzmatazzmatatatatboom, because it's twice as big, starting at $150. Drawings at $30 Friday, $20 Saturday, $15 Sunday. I think this is reasonable?!
** All letter-sized, at $10. Except for (providing everything goes well) one large print of Joker's Wild in the art show.
*** Hermes postcards for $2. Hades bookmarks for $1. And, of course, Dis: Life is Hell volume 1, for $10.)
